Miliband: Turning Turkey away from EU \

Sir,

Regarding ‘Miliband: Turning Turkey away from EU ‘unconscionable’‘:

In response to UK Foreign Secretary David Miliband’s comments regarding Turkey’s integration into the EU, allow me to state below what U.S. Ambassador James Gerald once wrote:

“The Turks should not be accepted into the society of decent nations until they show sincere repentance for their crimes. Fraternising with them on any other terms creates the suspicion of sordidness and complicity.”

I am with you on substance, but quoting a US diplomat is not helpful.

Unfortunately, the USA have never come to terms with the two large crimes in their history: slavery and the near extinction of the native Americans.

They might just not be the right people to lecture anyone on decency.

Your commentators dismiss at a stroke the fact that Turkey should not be allowed to join the European Union at stroke. We must allow Turkey to join, for if it was not so allowed it will move inexorably towards a full-bodied Islamic state and thus away from the founding tenets of Ataturk’s bequest for a secular state

We need each other and I am proud to say that as a European Citizen and a UK Citizen that there is no valid question as to why Turkey should not join.

Can you please clarify the crimes that were committed by Turkey?
You might claim the Armenian issue which is still considered disputed and one sided for many people? Instead of having biased opinion we should ground our arguments on facts and draw conclusions accordingly…

If Turkey is so guilty on every crime against humanity. Then who’s going to explain the barbaric invasion and genocide of fellow Azerbaijan by Armenian forces or the racist policies and propaganda applied by “civilized” Europeans against the Roma population. I guess, I do not have to mention about the extreme nationalism of France on the Corsican issue.
If there is someone to repent of their crimes; the essential ones should come from the countries of the Western imperialism
History will absolve the innocent one.

    To Dimocritos:
James W Gerard comment was in 1926 and he is the victim of Armenian propaganda.
Let me quote A Greek your fellow countryman, Antonis Angastiniotis 2004
It was The Greek Cypriots of the Neighbouring villages, along with army
personnel, attacked these villages. They shot the children, the mothers and any old people of these villages, 126 people who were killed, human rights Greek activist Antonis Angastiniotis had called on the Greek Cypriot people to apologize to the Turkish Cypriot people, prosecute the culprits and pay compensation to the families of the deceased.

We dont find not even one case in Europe, Asia or Africa where the submission to the turkish ruling by one country didnt follow a reduction in material and educational level. There is also no case where the libeation from the turkish yoke didnt lead to a high material and cultural elevation, either within christians or within muslims. The Turk never contibuted but only to destruction. He never proved capable to develop in peace that which he conquered in war.
    George Clemenceau
    Prime-minister 1919

That is quite a record turkey has no other country can claim it, and we can still find it by comparing North Cyprus and South Cyprus and also Southeast Turkey and North Iraq.

As for a highlights list of crimes created by Turkey starting from its formating years
    - Genocide of at least 2.000.000 christians in Anatolia (mostly Armenians but also Greeks, Assyrians, Syrians and others) and ethnic cleansing so that they can have the territory of today Turkey.
    - Istanbul pogrom 1955 aimed against Greeks mostly but armenians and jews also.
    - Creation and organization of paramilitary Türk Mukavemet Te?kilat? (TMT) which was organized so that through directing the intercommunal fights of Cyprus, Turkey could invade and divide Cyprus.
    - Invasion of cyprus which actually happen mostly in August not in Juli, (so the pretext of enosis with Greece is bogus). Ethnic cleansing of north Cyprus and 10000 Greek Cypriots dead, while they raped, looted, and killed civilians.
    - Crimes at ethnic Kurds by displacing them from the Southeast and other hate crimes.
    - Turkey never has respected International Laws it always tries to act outside the boundaries of them.
    - The orthodox ecumenical patriarchate of Istanbul is also slowly dying under the Turkish rule. Also it does not respect any minorities in general.

    Conclusion
Turkey is a ultra-nationalistic christianophobic nation who always likes to dominate on others just like Islam. Doesn’t respect universal morals and laws but it ignores them completly. Believe me it will be impossible to find a country in Europe that is continously as evil as Turkey. And no I don’t think it will change in the future either, the dialogue and accesion talks won’t change it at the core.

As Turkish citizens, we have come across extremely unfair treatments because of the ignorance and hatred of EU countries against us. As opposed to the common idea that the Turks are barbarians, beasts and destructors, we are not any more destructive than a typical mediterranean country!

Let us start with common delusions:

1- “Turkey is a ultra-nationalistic christianophobic nation who always likes to dominate on others just like Islam”: The Republic of Turkey has been secular since its establishment in 1923, long before most EU members. The religion of the individuals is a personal affair and any trial of religious enforcement is a crime. Personally, I can cleary declare being an atheist in Turkey. Turkey is not a society formed by uniform-homogenous people. The percentage of nationalists according to the last elections(2007) is around 20%.

2- “Genocide of at least 2.000.000 christians in Anatolia (mostly Armenians but also Greeks, Assyrians, Syrians and others) and ethnic cleansing so that they can have the territory of today Turkey.”: Nobody seems to consider the villages burned by Armenians cooperating with Russian Army! This is a historical issue that is still unrevealed. The 1915 issue is in the history of Ottoman Empire which is before the establishment of Turkish Republic. It is totally absurd to consider today’s generation responsible for what happened almost 100 years back!

3- “Ethnic cleansing of north Cyprus and 10000 Greek Cypriots dead, while they raped, looted, and killed civilians.”: or the other way around? Could the Turkish population in Cyprus(Around 100,000 in 1974) have been exposed to a ethnical cleansing stage by EOKA? Oh sorry they are not worth mentioning.

4- “Crimes at ethnic Kurds by displacing them from the Southeast and other hate crimes.”: Who told you that they are replaced from southeast:)) If so, where did they go?

5- “The orthodox ecumenical patriarchate of Istanbul is also slowly dying under the Turkish rule. Also it does not respect any minorities in general.”: The minorities are far more respected in Turkey than in any EU countries. Please ground your statements.

6- “Believe me it will be impossible to find a country in Europe that is continously as evil as Turkey. And no I don’t think it will change in the future either, the dialogue and accesion talks won’t change it at the core.”: Like they haven’t changed the racists in itself!
