Hello Miguel,

This letter does describe very well, contrary to popular understanding, that Switzerland has in fact built a good bilateral relation with the EU. Even though the debate in Switzerland about the EU is muted you have correctly pointed out their vote in support of the accession rules.
Peter Jones: it is very short-sighted to just brand Switzerland as a tax haven as it has taken active steps to cooperate with member countries on this issue. If you criticize the countries on the grey list for tax havens you do not need to look any further than Luxembourg, Austria (who has only recently been removed) and Belgium. It would be sensible if the EU demands third member countries to comply with “internationally agree tax standards” then it should lead by example, starting with its own member states.
Regards,

Switzerland is a plus for Europe? Switzerland profits hugely from Europe through tax competition and other fiscal measures.

Switzerland is just on one enourmous free ride - courtesy of the rest of Europe.

Hi, Miguel,

Your letter hits the bull's-eye and I think it should be a mandatory reading for Eurocrats at all levels.

Best!
